Love this school

Love this school. My daughter has been attending for one year. We enrolled her at the age of 2, she’s now 3. She is in the lady bugs class with Ms. Karen and Mrs. Cindy. I’m so thankful to have those intellectual women teaching my daughter about the Montessori methods. The teacher keep you informed on what your child learns on a daily basis. If your looking for a Montessori school I recommend this school.

The staff was friendly

February 6, 2019 by ray

I came here to seek preschool for my toddler. It was one of the nicest in the area, in that it was clean and didn’t smell. The staff was friendly and gave detailed information about enrollment, etc.

Wonderful beginning for our daughters

January 14, 2019 by ray

Name: Angela B.

Our oldest daughter has attended Little Acorn Montessori Academy for over three years. She started in the toddler room and is now in the pre-k/kindergarten room with Ms. Edina. She has blossomed so much since beginning at Little Acorn. She is independent, confident, social, academically strong and cares for herself and others.

Our younger daughter has attended the school for over a year now. She started in the infant room, moved to the walker side of the room when she turned one. She is currently transitioning to the pre-primary room. The transition has gone smoothly, the teachers showing care and reporting to us daily how the day went.

Teachers: All the teachers, assistants, and staff love and care for the students. I am amazed with the new and exciting things my daughter has learned. Infant and Walker teachers have such patience with the babies. Both daughters learned how to feed themselves, began using words, and how to share. Not to mention the most adorable art projects ever! It is amazing what can be made with an infant’s hands and feet! My oldest daughter continued learning her ABC’s, numbers, shapes, and continents with Ms. Syeda. She was coming home singing songs about the seven continents. Ms. Syeda also encouraged potty training, which was a huge help. Ms. Tiara, her primary teacher, (sadly she isn’t there anymore) taught her how to read! Ms. Edina is continuing to teach her comprehension and expanding my daughter’s growth. Teachers give students jobs based on individuality. There are weekly extracurricular programs including Spanish, cooking, computers, art and music. There are also outside programs brought into the school for an extra fee. My daughter is participating in a dance class and loves it! Ms. Susie and Ms. Wendy, administrators, listen to parent needs. They call when you have a sick child. There is a monthly curriculum posted in the classrooms and posted online.

The school: The school is divided into sections based on the student age. All classes are clean, just right size furniture, labeled areas and organized with hands-on manipulatives. The infant/walkers have their own classroom and playground. All other students play outside on a big playground. There are tricycles with a bike path, jungle gym, wall climbing structure, balance beams, artificial turf area, garden, small sand area, chalkboard and picnic tables that are shaded. A generous and healthy lunch menu is offered at an additional price.

We are so proud of the little humans we are raising and feel fortunate they are both receiving a terrific education in a safe and loving environment! Little Acorn Montessori has been a wonderful beginning as our daughters discover a love of learning!

Our 2 children loved this school!

June 23, 2018 by ray

Lisa V.

We have had two children attend Oneonta from 2 years to 5 years of age and we loved it!! All of the teachers in the early school are amazing – warm, thoughtful, and creative educators who care for the children as family and also inspire curiosity, learning, and kindness. Ms. Audrey, the Assistant Director, is the creative energy behind the curriculum and programming. Each year the overarching themes are different but they always focus on connection with others and empathy.

The kids are engaged in service learning. One year, my daughter’s class (with Ms. Audrey) adopted a cotton-top tamarin at the LA Zoo. Each child was responsible for figuring out how to raise money to contribute to the class adoption. The kids were so engaged that they learned about the Titi (cotton-top tamarin) Festival in Colombia and performed a class dance just like the kids in Colombia do during the festival.

This year, my other daughter’s class (again with Ms. Audrey) adopted goats for a family through Heifer International. As part of their learning, the kids had a goat milk day when they got to taste test various goat milk products. They also made goat-milk soaps.

In addition to service learning, they also learn language – Spanish and Mandarin, which my younger daughter loved! She would come home and teach us new words and new songs in Mandarin.

My daughters have also had Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Esther, and Ms. Melinda… all equally warm and loving and inspiring as educators. When my older daughter struggled with transitioning at the beginning of the year, Ms. Vanessa took her under her wing. Every day, my daughter would seek out Ms. Vanessa and was able to smoothly transition into class with her extra care.

And I would be remiss not to give due credit to Ms. Fiona, the school director. She is open, understanding, and always willing to help. I strongly believe that a school culture is dictated by the director… Ms. Fiona has fostered a wonderful community of learning and warmth, exactly what we desired in a school. Honestly, we would have continued into the older grades at Oneonta except that we had already committed ourselves to a Dual Language Immersion Catholic education because of our bilingual/bicultural home.

Our family has benefitted and so enjoyed being a part of the Oneonta learning community! Our teachers have been so special to us and we will have the finest memories of early learning with Oneonta!

We highly recommend Oneonta to anyone seeking an excellent early learning environment and/or a Montessori-based education for any age.
